Credit Crunch 2

What makes the Fed Chairman believe that a rate cut will have such economic impact that the Lener's will be more free with lending. Rather I think the converse is true. The Fed hasnt made an interest rate cut in four years. Lenders are not in touble because they didnt have money to loan; they are in trouble for trying to artifically boost profits at the expense of the Middle Class. If you give money to a homeless man, assume that you will not get the money back. In essences that is what happened.

Lets not forget the banks still have money, they are simply keeping it all for themselves.

The Big "G"

What do you get when you take a WiFi cell phone, and MP3 player, 3 meg camera, and GPS. Well you have the gPhone. It seems a little more likely now that if Google can get past federal regulators that they will launch an indy cell phone service, much like ESPN did. While ESPN had a fallout with Sprint, over their inability to integrate anything, Google will have its pick. AT&T seems the least likley candidate because of the iphone, and gPhone 1 has a touch screen as well.

Go Organic

JP Morgan added Whole Foods (NASDAQ: WFMI) to its Focus List, and expects the Wild Oats (NASDAQ: OATS) acquisition to be a catalyst for shares.

Thursday August 30, 2007

Freddie Mac (FRE) will issue its quarterly report, I think we call all agree that that is a bomd shell waiting to happen. The real fear is that all CDOs will tank, and the issuer of the underlying asset is... you guessed it Freddie Mac. The Freddic Mac issues should actually take some heat away from the large brokerage houses, and they should see some moderate gains: Lehman, Goldman, Bank of New York, and Morgan Stanly all stand to gain. On the whole the poor financial earning reports will drive the Big Board down 25-50 points.

Picks: Keep your eyes on Qualcomm and Valero through early next week. These have been hit by some of the volitility, but have bullish outlooks over the next few weeks. Not to mention LG. It looks like the trendy Prada drapped almost-iPhone has forced Apple to push up the release of its newly designed iPods. New iPods is always news.

Wednesday's Stock Pick - August 29

Take advantage of yesterday's weakness-its a natgood idea to look for high value stocks at a bargin.

Watch: The weakest sector is still the financial services. Lehman Bros., is a value stock right now. Remember that there is still "tightness" in the credit market. With a current price of 53.625, I think LB will drop down to about 52.25 by the end of next week.

Buy: Altria (MO)- News should come out shortly about its international tobacco unit, can you say spin off? Garmin LTD (GRMN)- Its M&A season. Semtech (SMTC) - They release earning reports today and I believe that they will "beat the street", new LED drivers are a big seller.
